Privacy Policy
TLDR Summarizer AI
Effective 22 October 2026.
This policy explains what the TLDR Summarizer AI Chrome extension does with information. We may update this policy; changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
The extension is operated from Ontario, Canada.
What the extension does
TLDR Summarizer AI summarizes the visible text of an http or https page, or the text of a PDF you choose, into five bullets, a short paragraph, and up to five links. There is no account and no signup.
You can use the shared summary service. Or you can save your own OpenAI key on your device. A saved key is sent only to OpenAI.
On the shared service, the text goes to our Cloudflare Worker, which calls OpenAI. If you saved your own key, the extension calls OpenAI directly and does not send the text or the key to us.
What we handle
We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
Page text and PDF text. When you summarize a page, the extension reads the visible text of that tab. When you summarize a PDF, it reads the file on your device. Files larger than 10 MB are rejected on your device and are not uploaded. The PDF file itself is not uploaded. The page address is not part of the summary request. The text is cut to 15,000 characters and sent to OpenAI so it can write the summary. The summary is shown in the side panel. We do not store the text or the summary.
If the page is an inbox, a document, or a profile, that visible text is what gets sent. Do not summarize a page if you do not want that text processed by OpenAI.
The tab you have open. The side panel reads the address and title of the active tab so it can show which page the summary belongs to and skip pages it cannot read. Those values stay on screen for that session. They are not saved, and they are not sent with the summary request. We do not keep a browsing history.
Install id. The first time you use the shared service, the extension creates a random id and stores it on your device. Later requests to the shared service send that id so an hourly limit can tell one install from another. It is not your Google account. It is not sent when you use your own OpenAI key.
IP address. We do not ask the extension for your IP address. The host of the summary service sees the address of the connection and uses it to limit how often summaries can be requested. An IPv4 address is stored as given. An IPv6 address is stored only as a shortened network prefix. We do not use the address to place you on a map.
Optional OpenAI key. If you paste a key and choose Save, it stays on your device. Testing the key, and later summaries, send it only to OpenAI. Remove deletes it. We never receive it.
Rate limits. On the shared service we keep a short counter for your install, for your IP address, and for the service as a whole. The limits are 20 summaries an hour for an install, 60 an hour for an IP address, and 1,000 an hour for everyone together.
Logs. Our request log records the time, the path, and whether the request counted toward a limit. It does not record the page text or the summary. Cloudflare may also keep connection logs, including the IP address, for 3 days on the free plan or 7 days on the paid plan.
This website. The pages at https://tldr-summarizer.pages.dev do not receive page text, PDFs, install ids, or API keys from the extension. They set no cookies and include no analytics. A visit can still appear in Cloudflare's connection logs.
Why
We use this information to write the summary you asked for, to show it on the right tab, to apply hourly limits, and to keep the service running. We do not use it for advertising, to sell data, or to decide anything about your job, housing, insurance, or credit.
Who else receives it
| Who | Why |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the shared summary service, the rate-limit counters, and this website. On the shared path, page text passes through Cloudflare on its way to OpenAI. |
| OpenAI | Writes the summary from the shortened page or PDF text. Receives your API key only if you saved one. |
These companies can process information outside Canada, including in the United States.
OpenAI's API terms, as published on 22 October 2026, say that API data is not used to train models unless the account opts in. This service does not opt in. OpenAI may keep the prompt and the reply in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days. A prompt cache, if OpenAI uses one, lasts no more than 24 hours. Source: OpenAI API data controls.
We do not let these companies use your page text for their own advertising.
If you open a suggested tool link, or the optional link in the side panel, you leave the extension. That site has its own policy. A link is not an endorsement.
How long it lasts
- Page text and the summary are not stored by us. The panel shows the summary until you close it.
- OpenAI may keep them for up to 30 days in abuse-monitoring logs, and for up to 24 hours in a prompt cache.
- Your OpenAI key and the install id stay on your device until you remove the key, clear the extension's storage, or uninstall.
- Rate-limit counters on Cloudflare last about two hours.
- Cloudflare connection logs last 3 days on the free plan or 7 days on the paid plan.
- This website stores nothing in your browser.
Chrome Web Store
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Page text and PDF text are used only to produce the summary and the tool links you asked for, and to apply the limits above. We do not sell that information. People do not read your page text as part of the product.
Your choices
Uninstall the extension to stop new summaries. If you saved an OpenAI key, choose Remove first. That deletes the key and the install id from your device. Rate-limit counters then expire on their own within about two hours.
We do not keep a copy of your page text to send you or to erase. You can copy the summary from the screen before you close the panel.
Where the law gives you a right to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object, the steps above are how you do that for this product. The extension is free either way.
Children
The extension is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. There is no age field. A parent who does not want a child's page text sent to OpenAI should not have the child use the extension.
Selling information
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for advertising. We do not set cookies, and we do not run our own analytics.

You can complain to:
- the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
